Coronado Island Film Festival 2017

The stars were shining bright in Coronado last weekend as Emerald C Gallery was the scene of the Filmmakers Bash for the Coronado Island Film Festival on Saturday, November 11, 2017. The gallery was the perfect backdrop as producers, filmmakers, directors, jurors, volunteers, board members, patrons and guests gathered to enjoy a night of music and celebration. Mariah Gillespie tickled the ivories, entertaining guests on the Emerald C's grand piano. Local artists were in attendance and included Jorge D'Soria painting a black and white rendition of a famous Marilyn Monroe portrait.  Among the attendees were CIFF President and CEO Mary Sikes, Founder and Executive Director Doug St. Denis, and Producer and Co-Executive Director Andrew Friedenberg, of the Coronado Island Film Festival, and Coronado City Manager Blair King and his wife Nancy Adams. CIFF saluted Award winning Director Raymond De Felitta, whose short film "Bronx Cheers" was an Academy Award nominee. De Felitta's movie "City Island" was one of the Festival's featured films. Guests mingled with screenwriter Rob Ramsey and Academy Award winning Director Ira Wohl (Best Documentary Oscar for "Best Boy") who served as Festival jurors; Catherine Tambini, Best Documentary for “Perfectly Normal for Me”, Emmy winner Amber Edwards, Mitra Sen, who won the Dale St. Denis Best Woman Filmmaker Award for "Under the Same Sun"; and one of Hollywood's most prolific cinematographers, Oscar-nominated ("Who Framed Roger Rabbit") Dean Cundey, of the "Back to the Future" series and "Apollo 13".

Go Big: A Destination Wedding in Venice, Italy - Part II

Here's a hidden benefit about a destination wedding in Venice: If you've ever been to Venice on a tour or cruise, you know one thing: you can't see it all. Tour groups are great if you want to see the Grand Canal, Piazza San Marco, the Bridge of Sighs...and then leave. But Venice, the real Venice, is found in the small passageways you've never heard of. It's in the unused canals that only gondolas can fit through, and the churches that tourists pass by and Venetians love. Having a destination wedding in Venice makes you a Venetian for as long as you're there. It gives you the chance to live Venice and see it through the eyes of a local. You'll get to see and experience more about the city than any tourist. And best of all, your friends and family will be there (most of the time!) to take it all in with you.

Go Big: A Destination Wedding in Venice, Italy - Part I

A destination wedding is a big undertaking. A destination wedding in Venice? That's pulling out all the stops for a wedding that will be held up as the gold standard.

First, let's be honest: it's all about the scenery. What better backdrop for your wedding photo shoot than a romantic Venetian gondola on the Grand Canal? Most people have their wedding photos in front of churches. You'll have yours in front of churches that have stood for hundreds of years and seen countless weddings. Some people arrive in a limo. You can arrive in a gondola. Some get married in a church around the corner. You can have St. Mark's Basilica.

It's Not Too Late for Holiday Photo Sessions

Christmas is the perfect time for family photos but even if Christmas is about to pass you by, it's not too late for holiday photo sessions. In fact, what about celebrating the New Year with a photo session that shows you and your loved one or family in your best formal wear or something casual that is the start of a family tradition?

Think of the parties and events you usually attend during the New Year. Sure, you might get your photo taken at a party but those are usually on the spur of the moment and they never seem to catch you at your best. While you're planning your best outfit and making a night of it, why not schedule a photo session so that you can capture that special evening and keep the memories forever?

As far as casual family photo sessions you may want to start the New Year with a tradition that includes taking a family portrait every year so you can look back at how your family has grown. Besides, if you make it a tradition then the holiday becomes even more special and the family has something to look forward to each year.

Think of Vogue and Allure magazines – their images are first rate and these are not your average quality photos. While several elements are vital to a high fashion look - care, precision, patience, color, lighting, composition and purpose are all important to consider – the image uniqueness or quality would not be captured without a suitable photographer.

In many places the weather is getting cooler which is a sure sign that the holidays are approaching. Whether you want to show off your family with photo Christmas cards or simply want a cherished memory by having a session done with everyone (including the pets), it's time to book your holiday photo session.

Holiday photos are a tradition for many families and what better way to embrace the season than with a photo session that showcases everyone being together? Venice - A Most Romantic City

Venice is one of the few cities in the world that can be truly described as simply stunning and completely unique. Over an extraordinarily long period, the city was embellished with monuments of rare splendor that today make it a tourist attraction like none other in the entire world. The city historically was the capital of the Venetian Republic. Venice has been tagged with many names as the "La Dominante", "Serenissima", "Queen of the Adriatic", "City of Water", "City of Masks", "City of Bridges", "The Floating City", and "City of Canals". Also known as a magnetic point for sweethearts, lovers, artists and poets, Venice is a magic city, which stretches across numerous small islands. It is often referred to as the city of "gondole", which are the means of transportation used to cross the numerous canals passing through the city. Gondolas, in fact, are the most famous and romantic means of transportation for experiencing the city.

Eight Nights in Venice

Venice. Have you been? This was our first visit. It’s unlike anywhere we’ve ever been! A mix of fairytale beauty, crowded squares, cooing pigeons and magically still canals. A romantic city to the core!

The Grand Canal is the main street of Venice. Lined with beautiful, aging palaces (palazzo) you can hop aboard a gondola and imagine a time when these boats were the main means of transport. The impressive pallazo, homes to all of the wealthy families, once had highly decorated exteriors with colorful paintings and mosaics. These days they have faded into one color but many still have the ornate, oriental facades influenced by merchant trading with the East which made Venice rich.

It's Time To Book Your Holiday Photo Session

There are things you can put off until the last minute. Homework, cleaning, chores. Booking your holiday photo photo session is definitely not one of them. Here's why.

It's you and all your friends

You're not the only one looking for a photographer. It's you, your friends, your parents, your neighbors, and pretty much everyone else in the San Diego area. And the early bird not only gets the worm, it also gets the best and most ideal session time. So unless you want to be scrambling at the last minute to find ways for your family to be in one place at 2 pm on a Wednesday, book early. You won't be worried about scheduling or rushed for time and you can focus on what matters: relaxing and looking your best for your photos.

Cards take time

If you're looking to send out photo cards or even just include a photo in a card, you need time to put it all together. Printers need time to process and print those cards and ship them. And you need time to address them, write notes, include your end of the year update letter, whatever. Don't forget about the labor involved in making sure those fantastic holiday photos get seen!

What to wear?

It's probably the most important question in your mind: what am I going to wear for my session? There's nothing worse than scrambling to your closet and realizing the only thing you have to wear...is the same thing you wore last year. Fashion choices are not a last minute decision and booking your appointment early gives you time to plan out exactly how you want to show yourself and your family off this holiday season.

Its time to book your holiday photo session, so contact us at Dreamkeeper Photography for you session now!

When you’re looking for San Diego wedding photography, you want someone who will capture all the angles.
